violin and viola lessons
Music is an amazing outlet for expression and creative ideas. I love to encourage the individuality that each player brings to their instrument at every level of ability. Each lesson is tailored to the skills and goals of the individual, and I'm always open to ideas and styles the student wants to pursue. The greatest joy of teaching to me is seeing how each student responds to different ideas. I enjoy finding new ways to communicate clearly and directly to help my students improve quickly and express themselves effectively.
beginners
Violin and viola beginners can expect to learn a solid foundation of basic skills, including posture and music reading. In addition to traditional learning methods such as the Suzuki system, I encourage beginners to improvise to become better acquainted with the sounds of a new instrument and the feel of creating music. This allows us to build good basic technique and musical style with a sense of exploration and fun.
Music will be recommended to beginners depending on the age, but I generally teach from the Suzuki books. For young beginners, I focus on familiar songs and tunes to teach basic skills, encouraging their interest while making music fun and accessible. If there is a particular song the student wants to learn, I will be happy to teach it or try to find or make an arrangement of it for the student.

advanced
Because of the difference of repertoire between violin and viola, I prefer that my advanced students (beyond the Suzuki level 5 book) be violists. Students with a serious interest in viola can expect to study scales, etudes, and classic viola repertoire. Each lesson will address whatever technical or musical inconsistencies or problems arise when playing. I will provide interpretive ideas, technique advice, and solidify the players talent and natural abilities. I will help prepare the student for auditions, shape their goals and find performance opportunities as they develop as a musician.
